Afrigator founders buy back shares from MIH

After the much publicized acquisition of Afrigator by MIH Print Africa (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Naspers Limited, the founders claimed back what was theirs on the first day of December 2009. I learnt about this developement about three weeks ago but was trying to reach the co-founder and CEO Justin Hartman to confirm if they finally went through with the buy back and he did confirm that they (Justin, Stii, Mike, Mark) now have majority shareholding of Afrigator Internet (Pty) Ltd.

Justin Hartman, Managing Director of the company said, “This deal effectively puts full control back into the hands of the original founders of the company and I am confident and excited about our future moving forward.

“We strongly believe that we have a solid business plan and everyone involved remains committed to realising our long term plans for the company.”

Commenting on the implications for users of Afrigator Hartman added, “The deal will have no impact whatsoever. Our services will continue in exactly the same way as before and there won’t be any change in how people access Afrigator properties.”

This should be interesting as the bureaucratic nature of big companies have been reduced (if not eliminated) hence give way to faster development and product improvement.
