Last Saturday (13th February), the last day of this years TED, for the first time ever, local youths in Kenya (some from the Kibera slums) were entreated to the live TED experience via webstream. The event was held in the building where the Acumen Fund is based in the parking lot (cool huh!) The original venue was in Kibera but at then it had to be moved at the last minute due to logistical reasons.
The event was largely put together due to the efforts of one exceptional and visionary team: Dickson Makau, George Kevin Otieno, Chris Makau, Jeremiah Omondi, Dennis Njoroge, Suraj Sudhakar and Tonee Ndungu (who previously brought TEDx to Kibera, read about the first TEDxKibera on the official TED blog). Thanks to TED and Acumen Fund for supporting this as well. What’s really interesting is that the event was pulled off in about a week only.
This really is evidence not only of how influential TED has become but more so how allowing individual communities to be involved in the TED experience can create a difference in people’s lives.

Wow! Looks like an exciting event. This is great and encouraging to see how others are being influenced by TED.
