13

The power of social media is finally making corporates think alot harder in Kenya. Just-a-band, a Kenyan music group has produced a viral campaign following the release of there second single from their latest album, 82. In a matter of days, the name makmende is on the lips, statuses and text messages of tens of thousands, and many more as I type this post. This is a great feat and an eye opener of how social marketing can hardly be overlooked in Kenya.

so kenya is now clearly embracing not just the social media and all it has to offer. This should create a new frontier for kenyan artists and businesses in general and it is my hope that they can translate into monetary gains because the talent and foresight is undeniably present…….kenya STAND UP !!!!

  2. What am curious about is why are we not seeing this creativity from larger more established…well heeled brands seeking to capture the imagination of their audience who are clearly online and on mobile? So ScanAd is going on a Google like shopping spree snapping up competition and buying stakes in the hard heads. While this augers well for the bottom line and creates a pseudo monopoly, I have this feeling that this space is about to see some radical developments both in-terms of creativity and mode of execution on both web and mobile.

I must say that the makmende viral campaign should be an eye-opener to corporates and SME’s, some of whom have not yet been convinced on the reason of having a website. Internet marketing is here to stay, with a bang, whether you like it or not. EVOLVE OR DIE

This development is phenomenal. It is ample proof that social media, when harnessed properly, can be used to achieve great results on a large scale, even here in Africa. Thumbs up to all the Just a Band and all the bloggers, geeks and tweeps who made this happen!
