Yup! Our African/Kenyan super hero has gone global. CNN yesterday featured our own super hero:

This is cool! Why? – We recently featured AfricaKnows, a web startup bent on painting a new image of Africa for the world. Makmende is a testimony to this, he is giving Africans an image they are proud to associate themselves with. The west has had it’s superman and batman and batwoman and X-men… all being ‘icons’ set in a different world from Africa, a different culture.

Perhaps this is the reason why Makmende became so famous. Kenyans and Africans at large found in him a unique personality and icon that was not only ‘super-hero-ish’ but also one coming right from their own culture, who they could identify with… well, that and the really cool track to accompany the video!
