Kahenya, one of the more influential people in the Kenyan technology scene, talked about a project his company ViRN Instruments has been carrying on over the last few months. He was speaking at the 1%Event which was held just over a month ago. The project – WebC – is a web platform that is actually a composition of several technologies. The aim is to make it extremely easy for people to launch web applications based on Open Source technologies cheaply and in a matter of minutes to hours instead of days. Furthermore the platform would also make it easy to monetize your content online by backing it with an ad serving platform. Here is the talk he gave at 1%:
ViRN is now online as an early preview. Kahenya writes about the technology:
WebC is a platform that allows for anyone to monetize their content or access new services for their websites or companies. It comprises of many tools, and the ones here are just a few of the many more to come…
1. Passport – Since ViRN Instruments is building more and more sites, we decided to build Passport which allows you to login to any site which has the Passport Logo with your WebC password…
2. Metro – This is our Ad Platform that basically distributes ads to all our sites and our affiliate sites. You can buy ad space and sell your own website space here and it is then dragged into Metro…
3. KiTE – KiTE is our analytics platform that generates analytics for any site that is registered with Metro that allows for you to sell your site space in a more transparent manner…
4. HCL – For the SMEs looking to have support services or a live sales desk, HCL is coming up to help your solve this gap in real time…
