Earlier this year we covered a competition being run by Chembe Ventures, a company that’s positioning itself to fund web startups in Africa.
Chembe Ventures is now sponsoring the ‘East-West Challenge‘:
This competition revolves around bridging East Africa with West Africa through technology – whether it’s a linguistic, cultural, technological, bandwidth… or any kind of divide you can think of. If you are a developer working to create technology that spans these two parts of Africa, or if you are working to connect these two regions of Africa in some way, we want to hear from you!

The competition is in anticipation of the upcoming BarCamp Africa to be held later this year in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. If you’ve got a great idea, here’s how to get in on the action:
All you have to do is write your “pitch” as a comment here on Africamp (after registering joining on Maneno).
-Tell us who you are and what you’re doing.
-Tell us why you should be at the BarCamp Africa.
-Got a video or additional materials to support your idea? Post that there as well.
Just make sure that you’ve got something tangible to show that bridges East and West Africa.

When they say East-West – which countries does that cover?
I reckon the next growth opportunity for tech on the African continent is cross border ties up between countries like Nigeria, Kenya,Egypt and South Africa.
As Bundublog.com we’ve been trying to reach out to bloggers in places like Nigeria and Kenya (with limited) success to try and strike up partnerships and content sharing agreements between our blogging platform as well as some of our other publishing interests.
If anybody has suggestions on how to build some networking opportunities I am all ears.
