DStv ON DEMAND offers a variety of general entertainment, sport and actuality programming. The programs are available within hours after first being broadcast on DStv and are normally available for viewing for a full 7 days thereafter (may vary on certain titles, check expiry date for confirmation).
I think this is a clear move by MWEB to promote content consumption on their pipes. This would create a demand for broadband services (hopefully provided by MWEB).
There is a slightly psychological ripple effect that could occur here with regards to ‘internet culture’ in South Africa. One could imagine that this would promote ‘internet-dependance’ (for lack of a better way to put it) – in essence, once your average broadband consumer realizes he can get free entertainment online, over time they get more and more used to it and over time they would probably begin to ask themselves “hmmm… I wonder what else I can do with my broadband…?”
