Silicon Cape hosts NetProphet, Rocks!

Apparently today’s NetProphet conference in South Africa really rocked. The tech event featured some top notch influencers, movers and shakers in the shaping of Startup Culture in Africa. Nur Brummen from memeburn summarises the electrifying event:

Free coffee, wi-fi and pumping music tunes was how over 800 tech geeks, freaks, entrepreneurs and industry leaders were greeted at the Net Prophet Conference in Cape Town today.

And with an impressive line-up of speakers and an ever-increasing sense of a real tech community in the Silicon Cape, it was no surprise to see a jam-packed and enthusiastic auditorium at Old Mutual Park on a very rainy Cape winter’s day.

Particular interesting speakers were Erik Hersman, who is the co-founder of Ushahidi.com, and Mocality.com
CEO Stefan Magdalinski, who both shared important insights on mobile and internet innovation in Africa, and how South African entrepreneurs in particular are well-placed to take advantage of it.

Hersman, who was raised in Sudan and Kenya, is also the founder of AfriGadget, and is considered an expert on understanding innovation and technology within an African context.

Pointing to a large map of Africa, Hersman stressed that Africa really is an “untapped sea of tech opportunity”, but to take advantage of this requires a different entrepreneur with a different mindset… READ MORE
