Ushahidi's Ory Makes Top 40 Women Under 40 - Afrinnovator

Ory Okolloh, one of the directors of the Ushahidi project has been listed as one of Business Daily’s Top 40 Women Under 40 in 2010.

Ms Okolloh first entered Kenya’s social conscience as a blogger and open-government activist five years ago through her website Mzalendo, famous for its bold decision to publish status reports on parliamentarians. However, it was during the af-termath of the 2007 elections that Ms Okolloh’s work was recognised on the world stage.

As a co-founder and executive director of Ushahidi, or “testimony” in Kiswahili, a website that attempted to map violence in Kenya after the post-election fallout in 2008 using reports sub-mitted online and by mobile phone, Ms Okolloh was part of a team that created a new emergency response system… [Download the full list of Top 40 Women Under 40]

  2. The award is richly deserved, she really showed us its possible to go out there and achieve something for Africa…

    I remember watching her TED video almost 2 years ago and feeling inspired to do something too.
