Sub-Saharan Africa Internet & Mobile Focused VC Firm to Hold an Interactive Talk at iHub

CORRECTION: The event is taking place on Monday, 28th, June (today); not Tuesday

eVentures Africa Fund (eVA) is a VC firm based in the Netherlands that has a keen focus on investing in Internet and Mobile based tech companies in Sub-Saharan Africa. The firm is currently focused on Ghana and Kenya as investment destinations:

The ultimate goal of eVA Fund is investing capital and knowledge to strengthen small and medium sized internet related enterprises thus securing and creating jobs and income for large African communities and with that, generating attractive financial returns for investors.

The firm has already closed some deals with companies in the two countries such as Explainer DC in Ghana, Jumuika Mobile in Kenya and Ratio Magazine in Kenya.

eVA Fund aims to finance:

  • Existing business with a track record of 2 to 5 years (i.e. we do not provide seed capital for start-ups)
  • Businesses in sub-Saharan Africa (where we have a first focus on Ghana and Kenya)
  • Business focus: internet and/or mobile applications, platforms, e-commerce and solution-providers (i.e. not in infrastructure and hardware)
  • Sound strategy and business model
  • Profitable, now or within a limited period of time
  • Capital need between Euro 25.000 and Euro 250.000

Funding of course has been one of the named challenges of starting up tech companies in most African regions. It seems there are good indications that we are heading the right way as evidenced by some of this initiatives. South Africans decided to take matters into their own hands and crowdsource for funding altogether.

Vincent Kouwenhoven and Brian Hirman, co-founders of eVA Fund will be holding an interactive session at the iHub on Tuesday, 28th, June at the iHub from 2.30 to 3.3o pm. This would be a great place to find out about funding prospects if you have a tech company for which you are seeking financing. If you are also interested in tech entrepreneurship or have an internet or mobile startup this would also be a great place to learn about how to acquire financing, different stages in financing or simply learn.

Brian Hirman about eVA Fund in talkshow Idealize (Broadcaster ‘Het Gesprek’, Dutch television – April 2010). Programme in Dutch.
