Zoopedup is a South African car blog turned social network built for people with a passion for cars. The site was started by one of South Africa’s influential techpreneurs, Charl Norman who took his passion for the Internet and combined it with a passion for cars to produce one of South Africa’s biggest home grown social networks.
Today we came across another potentially interesting blog about cars, this time it appears it’s being done by a Nairobian. MotorVehicular (or Motogari) is a pun on the english and swahili words for ‘vehicle’. The blog just like Charl Normans other Car Blog (currently ranked 7th in South Africa by Afrigator), appears to be something those who are passionate about cars and things to do with cars would be interested in.
Even more interesting, the motogari people have created a mobile app on Nokia’s Ovi store if you’d like to keep up with the blog right from your mobile phone.
While much of Africa is on Facebook and other ‘foreign built’ social networks, Zoopedup and Blueworld Communities (Charl Norman’s brain child, yet again) have proved that while it might not be possible to compete with the ranks of Facebook, a local social networking/media startup can carve up a niche for itself, primarily by specializing.

quite impressive i may say, clean and easy to navigate, and it has a targeted niche, as its name suggests.
