Cape Town, 2 August 2010 – Quirk eMarketing has hooked a big fish in new Chief Creative Officer, Clint Bryce, who steps into office today. Quirks founder and CEO, Rob Stokes, and leading digital “ideas man”, Clint Bryce can track each others’ progress way back to the heady nineties when the two started kicking up a fuss on the local Internet scene. Today, they join forces for the first time to take Quirk eMarketing to a new creative height.
Clint Bryce, aka Cranium Jack, is a nature loving hippy, who enjoys all things creative, esoteric and natural. But behind this gentle, prophet-like veneer is a heavyweight in the online advertising industry, with nearly 20 years riding the digital wave, either starting or leading teams in both Cape Town and Johannesburg for premier digital agencies [code] digital, SHIFT, JACK! and Aqua Online.
Back in the early nineties when Clint was art director at Hunt Lascaris, he first clicked on to the tremendous power of his Apple Mac SE to expand the possibilities in design and cut production time in half. He became an evangelist for the use of technology in design, and in 1995 joined Tinderbox Interactive in Cape Town in his first digital job. In the seven years that followed Clint managed to bag numerous trophies for his pioneering ideas, along with the first digital Loerie Grand Prix ever awarded.
Tinderbox enabled many recognized brands to expand their communications to the web. Clints efforts on Alexander Forbes, Sun Air, Amarula, Daimler Chrysler, Landrover, M-Net, National Magazines, SANLAM and RCI amongst many others led to his appointment as Creative Director at the age of 28.
After a move to Johannesburg, Clint found himself leading the studio at AquaOnline and contributed a short term toward the growth of the agencys creative team, profile, products and digital strategies. At the end of 2007, Clint returned to Cape Town as Head of Creative at Space Patrol Car: a division of 24.com.
Last week, Clint bid a fond farewell to this role to stretch his creative muscle as the Group Chief Creative Officer at Africas largest, full service digital agency, Quirk eMarketing.
Rob Stokes, CEO of Quirk is very keen to have Clint take the creative reigns, saying, weve been looking to fill this role since January, but the right candidate hasnt appeared. Then Clint came onto our radar. Taking responsibility for the creative output of a group of agencies is going to be no mean feat, but Clint is one of the pioneers of digital in South Africa and were super excited to have him joining the team.
Quirk holds the point of view that digital success lies in a wildly creative solution where key insights drive the ideas, based on an astute understanding of the clients business objectives and a 360 degree understanding of what is possible in terms
of technology and marketing. says Stokes, Quirk is depending on Clint to dream up the big ideas that will continue to set us apart from our local and international competition.
On why he wants to work at Quirk, Clint says, Quirk has impressed me for many years with their no-holds-barred performance where the rubber really meets the road: the return on investment. Their engineering skills in the online marketing space are also truly exceptional.
Digital media promises an exhausting array of accurate measurement capabilities - every single interaction can be tracked, listed and reported on. Quirk has done this extremely well. I believe they understand the importance of proving ROI to clients when you want to explore new ways to engage, inspire and motivate consumers using digital marketing, adds Clint.
Craig Raw, CTO of Quirk adds As a leading digital agency Quirk has always prided itself on technical skills creating a marketing product that simply works better than the competition. With Clint on board, we can partner great technology with great aesthetics to create fantastic customer experiences. Its really coming together as a complete offering.
Clint is inspired by ideas about ideas. He loves any idea that is clever, unexpected and relevant in its execution. He is also driven by a desire to share, which ties in well with Quirks philosophy of openness and education.
Clint says in an in-depth interview with Between 10 and 5 that what he is most excited about is the new, pioneering spirit in digital right now, and the new blood that has come into the local industry, who seem to have none of the fears that he and his contemporaries struggled with in the early days.
