Samsung is doing interesting things in Kenya with regards to mobile applications development and their recently launched mobile application platform, Bada. Robert Ngeru, from Samsung is really driving local applications development on their platform. Samsung are running a mobile applications development competition and have also started up a growing community of developers around their platform.
On the ihub blog is a fairly detailed article on the stage 1 winning applications from the competition. What’s interesting to note is the quality of applications that are being developed. They’re really very (locally) relevant apps! The winners are:
- Mikul Shah – EatOut mobile: Kenya restaurant guide on mobile
- Paul Mungai – Tweet Drill Down: Geo-locating tweets
- Sam Kairu – Geuza: Word translation game
- Nelly Ndonye – Nelly Data: Real time data from Nairobi Stock Exchange
