The Story of Shimba Tech's Pivot25 Winning MedKenya App
MedKenya, a product by Shimba Technologies Limited is the winner of the inaugural Pivot25 competition out of the 25 competitors in the mobile application and services space pitted against each other in a show of relevance, sustainability and innovation.
Shimba Technologies Limited will be going to Silicon Valley to present the application, MedKenya, at the Demo conference.
The story of MedKenya began late last year in August, with brainstorming over new content ideas for a widget platform (Tuvitu – www.tuvitu.com) in the tech labs at Shimba. Health emerged as one of the areas that has scanty local content but that has the possibility to ramp up engagement on the future content platform across the varied user base that it was targeting. Mutinda and his team went to work on the backend, with the original intention of offering health as a widget on the on Tuvitu platform.
Shimba’s two products and innovation, Tuvitu app and MedKenya, were both shortlisted for Pivot25. Shimba requested Mbugua Njihia, whose presentations skills are excellent, to make the pitch for its innovation. Mbugua did not disappoint in his presentation of MedKenya. MedKenya by Shimba Technologies emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural Pivot25 held in Nairobi.

Congratulations to Shimba Technologies for the great win! And also for your wisdom in choosing a person with strong presentation skills! I remember KopoKopo had a great presentation at Pivot25 and a weak presenter and that they missed a chance to win.
You have demonstrated that you cannot be all things and have chosen someone with a competency you don’t have. All the best in Silicon Valley. Bring the prize back home!-
Thanks for the kind words and the confidence you have demonstrated both in words an deeds!
